EJTN signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI)

  • The Memorandum of Understanding formalises a valuable development on the way forward in view of the creation of a European Forensic Science Area
  • The EJTN – ENFSI cooperation includes the development and implementation of seminars for legal and forensic practitioners

In April 2020, the EJTN, represented by its Secretary General, Judge Markus Brückner, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI), represented by its Chairperson, Michael Bovens, to formalise a productive cooperation between the two organisations.

Future of the cooperation

The penned Memorandum of Understanding formalises a valuable cooperation contributing to the development and implementation of seminars for legal and forensic practitioners subsequently to the Council Conclusions and Action Plan of 9th June 2016 on the way forward in view of the creation of a European Forensic Science Area, and to the implementation of the training needs identified in this field.

ENFSI and EJTN have a mutual interest for the enhancement of training quality provided to their members.

Further concrete undertakings include the yearly assessment of the training needs in fields of common interests, exchange of knowledge, EJTN pilot training with ENFSI scheduled for November 2020 in Riga on The use of the forensic science evidence in Courts - challenges and developments in the EU, development and dissemination of training and/or awareness-raising materials and publications.

In addition to cooperating with its Members and Observers, EJTN works closely with its nearly 20 European partners across a wide field of initiatives and projects. EJTN is proud to cement its working relationship with ENFSI and strive toward delivering greater synergies within judicial training.
