EJTN 2020 1 hour webinar series started with great success!

We are pleased to inform you that EJTN has successfully launched the first online webinar in its series!

After the official opening of the EJTN Secretary General, Mr Markus Brückner, who warmly welcomed the experts, EJTN Members and participants, Ms Raluca Bercea; Associate Professor from the Law Faculty of the West University of Timisoara, delivered an insightful lecture on the topic of the Freedom of Expression in Times of Pandemic. The presentation covered the key elements of the protection under art. 10 ECHR before the sanitary crisis with the main issues it raises today. Furthermore, she contrasted the issues which the freedom of expression on the internet and social media during the pandemic against the background of ECtHR relevant jurisprudence in the ongoing discussion on two ECtHR leading cases. The entire event has been moderated by Ms Morana Briski; Judicial Advisor at the Croatian Supreme Court and the Activity Coordinator for the EJTN Programmes seminar on the Freedom of Speech. As the member of the EJTN Human Rights and Fundamental Sub-working group she invited all the participants to join the face-to-face October seminar on the Freedom of Speech that will also include a more in-depth approach to the discussed topics. 70+ participants coming from all over Europe raised many interesting questions especially concerning fake news vs. freedom of expression and the future concerns/predictions on the limitation of freedom of expression even by the means of the criminal law.

EJTN 2020 webinar series continues after summer!

Head of EJTN Programmes Unit, Ms Carmen Domuta, announced to the EJTN Members that the next series of 8 lunchtime webinars will continue from 10th September 2020. Webinars will cover the variety of topics from EJTN Sub-working groups (Administrative, Civil, Criminal and Human Rights) and will be held every second Thursday 1-2 PM (Brussels time) following the same format.
