In order to tackle the increasing number of complex cases with a transnational dimension, EJTN’s Criminal Justice seminars offer Europe’s judiciary tailored training seminars within this diverse field. The seminars adopt a unique learn-by-doing methodological approach in order to ensure practical and lively sessions.
AIM
EJTN’s Criminal Justice seminars are intended to promote a better understanding about the current EU legal framework of Criminal Justice in order to enable practitioners to work together across the borders. Furthermore, the seminars aim at bolstering the awareness and knowledge of several areas of EU Criminal Law such as asset recovery and confiscation, cybercrime and e-evidence or procedural rights in order for practitioners to embrace EU law as part of their daily practices.
Collaborative partnerships, particularly with the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL), and other networks and entities (i. e. JITs Network; GNS, The European Network of contact points responsible for investigating and prosecuting persons responsible for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crime) are utilised through specialised trainings.
KEY TOPICS
The Criminal Justice training seminars consist of interactive sessions, simulations, group's work and the review of case-studies inspired by real facts in order to animate debates and promote interaction between practitioners attending the different events. These trainings cover a wide range of legal topics, including:
- Cross-Border Judicial Cooperation (EAW, EIO and MLA simulations)
- The European Investigation Order (gathering and admissibility of evidence)
- Procedural Safeguards
- Counter-Terrorism
- Cybercrime and E-evidence
- Trafficking in Human Beings
- Financial Interests of the EU and the EPPO
- Asset Recovery and Confiscation
- Victim's Rights
- Core International Crimes
The collaborative partnership with CEPOL brings together law enforcement and judicial communities for joint courses on, inter alia, JITs, illegal immigration, financial investigations, counter-terrorism, e-evidence or corruption.
ACHIEVEMENTS
In 2021, EJTN has faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic situation by continuing its seminars in a new format and making them accessible to all participants across the EU with the great help of its Experts, Activity Coordinators and support of its Members. EJTN’s Criminal Justice trainings provided for 25 trainings and webinars attended by practitioners from EU and Western Balkans. Despite the pandemic context, the online and face-to-face trainings and webinars received very positive feedback from the attendees and were highly appreciated by justice practitioners with great added value for their professional development.
