Sweden: Judicial Training Academy

Judicial Training Academy

The Swedish Judicial Training Academy provides initial and continuous training for judges and legal staff employed within the courts of Sweden. The Academy offers more than 100 training sessions for appointed judges and a ten weeks program of initial training for younger judges.

The Academy is headed by a director and a deputy director, who both are judges. Eight judges work part time for the Academy. They are responsible for the curricula within the main legal fields of administrative procedural law, environmental and land law, family law, migration law, penal law, procedural law, social welfare law and tax law. Also, there are six full time employed legally trained staff who develop and monitor the training sessions. The Academy also has administrative staff. Teachers are chosen from courts, universities and elsewhere.
