The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Latvia
The Prosecution Office is an institution of judicial power, which is independently exercising the supervision over the compliance to law within the limits of competence prescribed for by the legal enactments.
The task of the Prosecution Office is to react to any violation of law and to ensure the review of the case related to the said violation in accordance with the procedures laid down by the law.
The Prosecution Office is a single, centralized three-level system of institutions administered by the Prosecutor General. The institutions of the Prosecution Office are organised hierarchically and territorially. The Prosecutions Office consists of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Judicial Region Prosecution Offices and District Prosecution Offices, as well as the Specialized Prosecution Offices.
The Prosecutor General’s Office is responsible for selection of prosecutors and initial training that they must undergo before their appointment.
According to the Regulation on Apprenticeship and Qualification Examination for Candidates to Position of Prosecutor, the Prosecution Office is responsible for ensuring the conditions for fulfilment of the tasks of the apprenticeship program for candidates to the position of prosecutor. Thereby the Prosecution Office must ensure the required training measures for candidates to the position of prosecutor.
Within the available possibilities, the Prosecutor General’s Office itself and in cooperation with other partners is arranging and providing the continuous in-service training, including local, national and international, for its staff members (prosecutors).
